Just Imagine

Just Imagine is a 1930 science fiction film -a musical comedy science fiction film, if you can believe it- starring Maureen O'Sullivan and Frank Albertson (Psycho, Room Service, It's a Wonderful Life). The music isn't a draw, and the comedy is stale. I found it tiresome and didn't finish it.

part of the voiceover at the beginning:
... If the last fifty years made such a change, Just Imagine the New York of 1980 ... when everyone has a number instead of a name, and the Government tells you whom you should marry! Just Imagine ... 1980!

The Spinning Image concludes
There's not actually much that's still funny about this, not that there was much hilarious when it was first released, which leaves us with the historical interest gambit to play, and that rests on spotting how much they got hopelessly wrong. Not the hardest game in the world, ... The best you could say is that it was quaint, but a little quaintness goes a long way.
TCM has some information. Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have a critics score, but the audience score is 47%.
