Fail-Safe

Fail-Safe is a 1964 science fiction film that deals with an accidental nuclear attack. It stars Henry Fonda, Dan O'Herlihy, Walter Matthau, Ed Binns, Larry Hagman and Dom DeLuise. Frank Overton (who had a Star Trek connection) and Fritz Weaver (also with a Star Trek connection) also starred.

This remains a tense drama, and I can't help but think that something like this could easily happen no matter what the disclaimer at the end of the movie says.

Googlevideo has it online:

Moria says,
director Sidney Lumet creates an incredibly stark tension, evoking a real sense of what it must have really been like during the Cuban Missile Crisis with the seconds ticking away in dread

The New York Times says it
is definitely in the area of those films that are important and are going to be talked about. And it packs a melodramatic wallop that will rattle a lot of chattering teeth.
